"I tell you, open your eyes
and look at the fields.
They are ripe for harvest."
- Jesus, John 4:35
The Season of Advent 2021
November 28 - December 24
The season of Advent
marks the beginning of the Church Year,
comprised of the four Sundays
before the celebration of the birth of Christ
on Christmas Day (December 25th).
The term "advent" comes from the Latin
which means "coming" or "arrival".
Advent then is the season of
anticipating and preparing for BOTH
the celebration of Christ's birth (past event)
as well as Christ's return in glory (future event).
In this way Advent links Christ's birth
with Christ's triumphant return.
Themes and teachings representative of this season
include the prayers and piety of the faithful
proximate to the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem,
and how we today can prepare for Christ's return.
Another theme of the season is comparing and contrasting
Christ's first coming in humility (as a human baby)
with Christ's return in glory as king to judge
the living and the dead.
Come and worship with us this Advent season!
(Holy Communion is normally served the first
and third Sundays of the each month.)
